Cyclist Friendly Rathkeale

Cyclists can enjoy a host of services in Rathkeale, the start of the Limerick Greenway. These include bike parking, toilets, food, picnic tables and repair facilities.

1. Limerick Greenway

The newly resurfaced cyclist friendly Limerick Greenway starts in Rathkeale and connects to Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale. Built along the former Limerick to Kerry train line, Ireland’s newest tourism amenity include the restoration of two 19th century station houses at Ardagh and Barnagh, the renovation of the Barnagh Train Tunnel. 2. Rathkeale House Hotel

The refurbished Rathkeale House Hotel welcome cyclists to refresh themselves at the Greenway Bistro, rent or park bicycles and use their toilets. The hotel has a large car park and is close to a bus stop. It can be accessed from the Greenway and from Main Street, both close to the River Walk For more information, call (069) 63333.

Pedal Pursuits at the Hotel

Pedal Pursuits rents all types of bicycles and equipment from the grounds of the Rathkeale House Hotel, next to the Greenway. Their convenient location allows customers to avail of hotel facilities with the option of leaving the bikes in Abbeyfeale. Bus Éireann’s regular services to Rathkeale conveniently stops outside the front gate of the hotel. To hire a bike, call (086) 8134061.

3. Downe’s Eurospar Supermarket

Cyclists can park their bikes to enjoy hot food, ice cream and beverages at the Eurospar’s covered picnic tables. They have a large car park and toilets are available upon request. For more information, call (069) 63550.

4. White’s Foodstore & Filling Station

White’s Foodstore & Filling Station stocks puncture repair kits, has tools available, free air for tyres, a bike stand for parking, food and beverages and a new picnic table to relax at. For more information, call (069) 64725.

5. The Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre houses the region’s Fáilte Ireland Tourist Point. The friendly staff help visitors with information about West Limerick attractions, events, products, and services. It is located next to the Augustinian Abbey ruin at the Community Centre (historic courthouse and borstal.) Summer opening hours are from 9:00 am to 1 pm Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am to 12:30 pm on Friday. Cyclists can park their bikes until 5 pm on weekdays. 6. Augustinian Abbey

Cyclists can park their bikes inside the park gate near the Abbey and public toilets. The grounds also host Limerick Youth Services, a car park bandstand and all weather pitch. For more information, visit rathkeale.com/abbey.

Rathkeale is welcoming more Irish speakers and visitors from abroad. So while we may not speak every language we have cyclist notices in other languages:

ENGLISH: Cyclists Welcome. Bicycles and other items left at users’ own risk. No overnight parking.

 

IRISH: Tá fáilte roimh rothaithe. Fágtar rothair agus míreanna eile ar riosca na n-úsáideoirí féin. Cosc ar pharcáil thar oíche.

GERMAN: Radfahrer willkommen. Fahrräder und andere Gegenstände werden auf eigene Gefahr des Benutzers zurückgelassen. Kein Parkplatz über Nacht.

FRENCH: Cyclistes bienvenus. Les vélos et autres objets sont laissés aux risques et périls de l’utilisateur. Pas de stationnement de nuit.

DUTCH: Fietsers welkom. Fietsen en andere voorwerpen worden op eigen risico van de gebruiker achtergelaten. ‘s Nachts niet toegestaan

AFRIKAANS: Fietsryers welkom. Fietse en ander voorwerpe word op eie risiko van die gebruiker gelaat. Geen oornagparkeerplek nie.

RUSSIAN: ДОБРО ПОЖАЛОВАТЬ, ВЕЛОСИПЕДИСТЫ! ИСПОЛЬЗОВАНИЕ ВЕЛОСИПЕДОВ И ДРУГИХ ПРЕДМЕТОВ ОСТАЁТСЯ НА СТРАХ И РИСК ПОЛЬЗОВАТЕЛЯ. ПАРКОВКА НА ВСЮ НОЧЬ ЗАПРЕЩЕНА.
